From the Artist

An artist is not told what to create. They are more advised; and how I go through the process of making something, not the end result. My goal throughout my artwork is not making the best thing I can make, but showing to my audience, my friends, my critics, that the real art is the journey. I took to make it.

A photographer that influenced me this year is Sally Mann. I enjoyed looking at her photographs due to the immoral theme in some of her photographs. Her pictures intrigued me because of so many people claiming that she was scandalous and she shouldn't have taken some of the images that she did. Also the way that she positioned and shot her photos, to me seemed like a more comfortable way of taking pictures when I tried to imitate her style. By angling and positioning certain photographs under the influence of her, I found a new, cozier way for me to take pictures. Since I love the idea of immoral images, I too tried to take some of my pictures in a scandalous way. Whether it had been a peel being peeled only so far and seeing the nasty inside of a fruit; or having a woman take over a man's power when in our society it is assumed the man should be the one in charge.

Throughout the year, my photography style hasn't really changed in the sense of myself changing my positions when I take an image. I love the idea and style of having a sharp, low depth of field image. To me, it was always such an intriguing way to take pictures because it would make people question why the object is so important that it is the only thing in focus. However, I did become more creative with positioning the objects I photograph in order to create more unique compositions. I created more visually interesting compositions as opposed to previously, when I did not even think about what I was shooting. My goals in the future is to keep working hard. I always wanted to broaden my skills in different branches of art. Although I have some skill set in some art fields, I want to experience more.
